Location:  First Baptist Church, Kearney, NE

Project Size: Renovation size, 112,000 square feet

Products and Services:

First Baptist Church purchased the old Kearney High School and planned to renovate a large portion of the building for their congregation. The anticipated renovations were extensive, with plans to include spaces for a sanctuary, offices, classrooms, a child care center, a gym, and a retail area. It was a large project and Midwest Door & Hardware was glad to come on board when our bid was accepted in July 2017.

We began the project by consulting and advising on the best hardware for the project—all while considering the level of security they wanted within their budget for the project. This helped us to see what First Baptist had envisioned for the project and gave us a chance to recommend the best options for the building.

After consulting with the client and the project team, Midwest Door & Hardware provided door hardware, hollow metal doors and frames, and wood doors for the church.

Because it was such a large renovation, this project shifted slightly throughout its duration. They chose to reuse some of the existing doors and frames from the building which led to some challenges with the hardware we planned to use on the project. Using the existing doors meant that the hardware didn’t fit as it was intended. We worked together with the client, considering both quality and price in the adjustments.

Once we were notified of these changes, we worked to provide a solution for First Baptist, adjusting the hardware we planned to use. We provided alternative hardware for the existing openings to make sure they not only functioned properly but were also the right design for the aesthetic of the project.

Then we worked closely with both the project architect and the job site superintendent to make sure those materials were ready when the team needed them, even with adjustments to the timeline.

The project is nearing completion and the congregation plans to start holding services in late November or early December.
